Getting Started

When you run the program for the first time you are presented with 4 options:

  1. Create a New Lexicon
  2. Open an Existing Lexicon
  3. Download a Starter Lexicon
  4. Import a Lexicon

The easiest way to begin is to check for a starter lexicon that suits your needs. Choosing this option will contact personal-lexicon.com and download a catalog of available starter lexicons. If one of the lexicons in the catalog is in the language you're learning then select it and click Download. Once the download is complete then the lexicon will be opened automatically.

If you can't find a starter lexicon for your language then you probably want to create one from scratch. The steps to do this are also easy, but the lexicon won't have any pre-existing content. If you need assistance creating a new lexicon see Creating and Configuring Lexicons or the Quick Tutorial on the website.

If a friend or a teacher has given you a lexicon import file then you want to choose the import lexicon option. Selecting this option will prompt you for a .plf file. Once you've located and opened the file then the lexicon will be imported and shown in the main window.

The final option available to you is to open an existing lexicon. If you're running the program for the first time then there won't be any existing lexicons.
